What is Mostro?
Mostro is a non-custodial peer-to-peer Bitcoin exchange built on Lightning Network and Nostr. It allows direct Bitcoin trading between people without intermediaries — no KYC, no custody of funds, fully encrypted and censorship resistant. Learn more at mostro.network.
What is Mostro Community?
Mostro Community is a support program for Bitcoin communities that want to run their own Mostro node. We provide technical guidance, help with setup and configuration, share best practices from other communities, and work together to grow a decentralized network of trusted P2P trading nodes around the world.
Do I need permission to use Mostro in my community?
Absolutely not. Mostro is 100% open source and permissionless. Anyone can run their own Mostro node, invite their community to use it, and start trading — without asking anyone, without registering anywhere. The code is on GitHub and it works out of the box.
What are the benefits of joining this program?
Communities that join receive direct support from the Mostro team: help configuring your node, building trust over time, learning from other communities' experiences, and eventually being included as a trusted node in the Mostro mobile app. It's about building a relationship — we get to know your community, your leaders, and how you operate. That trust goes both ways.
What do I need to start a community?
An active Bitcoin community with committed leaders, and the willingness to run a Mostro node. You don't need to be technical — we'll guide you through the setup. What matters most is having real people who want to trade P2P in their local currency.
Can I run a Mostro node without joining this program?
Of course. That's the beauty of open source — it works with or without us. You can deploy your own node, configure it however you want, and tell your users to add your node's public key. No gatekeepers, no approvals needed. This program simply makes the journey easier and connects you with the broader network.
What technical support is included?
We help with node installation, configuration, Lightning connectivity, and troubleshooting. We also provide documentation, share operational best practices, and connect you with other community operators who have already gone through the process.
